Aptly named the island of spice, Grenada has it all, with lush rainforest, spectacular waterfalls and dramatic coastlines. Turquoise blue sea with beaches that stretch for miles and miles can be found around every bay. Christopher Columbus first sighted the island in 1489 and gave it the alias Conception Island, and later called it Granada. The island is of volcanic origin with extremely rich soil. Grenada's interior is very mountainous with Mount St. Catherine being the highest at 2,756 feet. Several small rivers with beautiful waterfalls flow into the sea from these mountains. The climate is tropical; hot and humid in the rainy season (July through to November and cooled by the trade winds in the dry season (December to June) Tourist facilities are being expanded and tourism is the leading foreign exchange earner. The island is experiencing a major development spurt and property prices are extremely reasonable. There are many opportunities for the discerning property developer. The island is expected to become one of the Caribbean’s choice destinations in the coming years. When Buying a Property legal fees are approximately 2% of the purchase price. Stamp duty generally 1% of the purchase price. Mortgage down payment are usually minimum of 10%, but can be as low as 5% depending on provider.
