Costa Rica has only about 0.1% of the world's landmass but it contains an astounding 5% of the world's biodiversity and is home to some of the world richest variety of plants and animals. Over 25% of Costa Rica is composed of protected forests and reserves.In Pre-Columbian times the Indigenous people, in what is now known as Costa Rica, were part of the Intermediate Area located between the Mesoamerican and Andean cultural regions. Ecotourism has become one of the major industries in the Costa Ricans economy. High levels of education among its residents make the country an attractive investing location.The economy has been expanding for Costa Rica in part because the Government had implemented a seven-year plan of expansion in the high tech industry. The central government offers tax exemptions for those who are willing to invest in the country. Costa Rica is a property developers dream, there is an abundance of real eastate opportuniutes; small intimate villas, stunning luxuriuos homes, acres of stuning beach land and numourous private eco development propjects.Most properties in Costa Rica are registered in a computer system called "Folio Real". This system is centralized at the offices of the Public Registry in San José. In order to record the transfer of the property, the government charges 1.5% of the purchase price and an additional 1% is charged for other stamps at the Public Registry. Notaries are required by law generally 1.25% as their legal fees.
