Overview – Samana Real Estate

Located on the north-eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, the Samana Peninsula is much less developed than other parts of the Dominican Republic such as Punta Cana, Cabarete and La Romana.

Despite its lower profile, Samana is emerging as one of the Dominican Republic’s hottest destinations. 500 new hotel rooms opened in Samana in 2015, according to TravelPulse, and the province is tipped as one of the DR’s top under-the-radar treasures. Tourism to Samana is projected to grow by 5.5% in 2016 and 2000 additional hotel rooms are set to be opened in Samana by 2018, according to representatives of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA). The growth in popularity of Samana Province, in particular locations such as Las Terrenas, has not gone unnoticed by other observers. Travel Weekly also picked up on the trend, describing Samana as “emerging as a destination for adventure-seekers, beach lovers and those seeking a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the capital city of Santo Domingo.”

The province of Samana is famed for its beaches which are strikingly varied. The powder soft sand of the golden beaches at Playa Coson and Playa Bonita near Las Terrenas, the porcelain white sand at Galeras which overlooks impossibly turquoise sea and the magnificent gem of a beach at Playa Fronton on the far eastern tip of the Samana Peninsula are, without a doubt, some of the best beaches in the Dominican Republic. Travel+Weekly included Playa Rincon and Cayo Levantado – both located in Samana Province – in its list of the Dominican Republic’s best beaches.

As hotels have opened and tourism has grown in Las Terrenas and Samana, the real estate market has grown too. There is a wide range of property available, from brand new contemporary beachfront condos and homes fronting on to beaches such as Playa Coson, Playa Bonita, Playa Punta Popy and Playa El Portillo, to sprawling tropical style estates nestled in the lush green hills in and around the small, cosmopolitan town of Las Terrenas.
