Relocating – Is The Bahamas a Good Place to Live?

The Bahamas is probably best known for its stunning beaches which range in color from the whitest of whites to baby pink. Combined with the breathtaking backdrop of the turquoise ocean waters, the landscape is simply spectacular. However, this wonderful archipelago offers much more too. The islands and surrounding waters rank among the best places in the world to indulge in activities from boating and fishing to golfing or just lazing on the beach. Add to this highly attractive tax benefits (no income tax, wealth or inheritance tax or capital gains tax) and you get one of the most desirable places to live not only in the Caribbean but the world.

Visas & Residency – Can I Move to The Bahamas?

While applying for a long-term work permit can be difficult, The Bahamas is very welcoming of both tourists and investors who can support themselves financially.

Annual Residency

If you plan to spend only part of the year in the archipelago you need only apply for an Annual Residence Permit.

Permanent Residency

If you would like to make a more permanent move, you will need to apply for a Permanent Residence Permit. Permanent Residence Permits allow foreign nationals investing in property, opening a business or retiring in The Bahamas to live permanently in the country.

To qualify via the real estate investment route, applicants must be aged over 18, must be able to demonstrate the ability to support themselves financially, and declare in writing that they wish to live permanently in The Bahamas.

The minimum level of required investment is $750,000.

To qualify for Accelerated Consideration for Permanent Residency in The Bahamas (which fast tracks the application process), applicants must invest a minimum of $1,500,000 in real estate in The Bahamas.

Spouses and dependent children aged under age 18 who are usually resident in the household may be included in the application.
