Overview – Jalisco Real Estate

The state of Jalisco is located in Mexico’s central highlands on the country’s western Pacific Coast and is the second most populous state in the Mexican Republic.

Jalisco is situated just south of the state of Nayarit and the Riviera Nayarit which is emerging as a popular beach tourism destination.

How to Buy Property in Jalisco

Article 27 of the Mexican constitution prohibits foreign buyers from owning property within 100 km (60 miles) of Mexico’s border and 50 km (30 miles) of the coastline. There are however ways to get around this. Non-citizen buyers can purchase property within 50 km (30 miles) of the coastline in areas such as Puerto Vallarta through the use of a Trust (Fideicomiso) or a Mexican Corporation. Buyers investing in real estate in Guadalajara or Lake Chapala can however purchase property fee simple as a direct owner.

Getting to Jalisco

The region is served by either Puerto Vallarta International Airport or Guadalajara Airport, which is officially known as Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Guadalajara International Airport (“Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla”).

There are direct flights to both airports from the USA and Canada.
