Overview – Isla Mujeres Real Estate
The small island of Isla Mujeres lies off the coast of Cancun (in the State of Quintana Roo) and the Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico.
To the east the island enjoys views of the Caribbean Sea, while to the west you can see Cancun just across the water.
Once a small, sleepy island, today Isla Mujeres – or “Isla” as it is often called – is a popular tourist destination for day trips from Cancun and vacations which can be quieter and more affordable than in its much large neighbor just across the Gulf of Mexico.
This Mexican Caribbean island is small – just 7km in length – so you can get around by golf cart.
There are plenty of places to visit including powder soft white sand coral beaches such as Playa Norte, Mayan ruins such as the Temple to the Goddess Ixchel, restaurants serving a variety of cuisine and Tortugranja (a turtle sanctuary and rehabilitation center).
One of Isla’s other main attractions is the world that lies beneath the turquoise water. Several coral reefs such as El Farito reef have made the area popular for snorkeling and scuba diving. The Cancun Underwater Museum near Manchones Reef created by English sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor (Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA)) is also a fascinating site to explore underwater.

Getting to Isla Mujeres
To get to Isla Mujeres you can fly to Cancun International Airport which is the the second largest airport in Mexico.
There are direct flights to Cancun from North, Central and South America, as well as from cities across Mexico.
Isla Mujeres is a 20 minute ferry ride from Cancun.
The ferry departs every half hour from Puerto Juarez and slightly less regularly from Playa Tortugas, Playa Caracol and El Embarcadero in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
