Overview – Cat Island Real Estate
Located south-east of Eleuthera in the Out Islands of The Bahamas, Cat Island is a 150 square mile island which is home to less than 2,000 people.
Surrounded by crystal clear, brilliant turquoise waters, the tranquil island is also home to beautiful nature trails, rolling green hills which descend to long, pristine white and pink sand beaches and a rich history.
The most well known sites include the ruins of Armbrister Plantation, an 18th-century plantation at Deveaux House and a small stone monastery called The Hermitage which was built in 1939 by Roman Catholic priest Monsignor John Hawes (Father Jerome) at the top of Mount Alvernia (known locally as Como Hill) which, at a height of 206 feet, is the highest point in The Bahamas.
Even more well known, is the island’s most famous former resident: Actor Sir Sidney Poitier whose parents were from Cat Island. He lived on the island for 10 years until moving to Nassau.
Today, it tends to be the pristine natural beauty, tranquility, friendly people and laid back lifestyle rather than the historical legacy that attracts property buyers to Cat Island real estate.
There are several resorts and residential communities on the island including Pigeon Cay.
For those looking for a view, the elevation offers wonderful ocean views.

How to Get to Cat Island
Cat Island has 2 airports: Arthurs Town airport in the north and New Bight Airport in the south.
There is also a small private airstrip on the southeastern tip of Cat Island for guests of the Hawks Nest Club.
To get to Cat Island, fly to Nassau and then take a connecting flight – there are daily scheduled flights from Nassau.
